NSW Tram & Bus Division strike for EBA State Transit Bus Operators have held two stopwork meetings and a 48 hour strike to press their claim for a significant wage increase in the new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement now being negotiated. The RTBU NSW Tram & Bus Division claimed 9 per cent per year for two years, and State Transit countered with an offer of 3 per cent per year for two years. Bus Operators are angry that other public sector workers in NSW have won higher increases than this. Immediately prior to the 48 hour strike on March 6-7, NSW Transport Minister Carl Scully offered 10 per cent with three payments for the 24 month period of the EBA: - 4 per cent from January 1, 2002
- 4 per cent from January 1, 2003
- 2 per cent from July 1, 2003.
The Tram & Bus Division countered with a claim for 10 per cent in two payments: - 6 per cent from January 1, 2002
- 4 per cent from January 1, 2003.
A stopwork meeting to consider the next stage in the campaign was held on March 14. Two thousand members attended the meeting, with Newcastle members joining via a satellite hookup. The meeting voted to press ahead with the 9 per cnet claim, with further industrial action.
